Bridging Trichology and Scalp Wellness.

ISHI trains beauty professionals to understand the scalp as the foundation of healthy hair — through science-based education built for the salon floor, not the laboratory.

01 — ABOUT ISHI

Scalp health, treated as its own field.

For decades, hair care has been treated as a surface concern — product, style, technique. ISHI exists because the scalp deserves the same rigor: an independent field of professional knowledge, not an afterthought to hair.

  • Why scalp health, specifically Hair condition is a downstream result. The scalp — its balance, its barrier, its follicular environment — is the variable that actually determines long-term hair health.
  • Where trichology meets the salon ISHI connects trichology, hair science, and scalp wellness into a single practical framework — built to be used at the chair, not just in a textbook.

Arisa Sorimachi
Certified Trichologist · Founder of ISHI

I moved from Japan to the United States, bringing with me the discipline of Japanese Head Spa. As a stylist, I met many clients struggling with hair loss, dandruff, irritation, sensitivity, and other scalp concerns — and I wanted to actually help them.

I quickly realized that experience alone wasn't enough. I wanted a stronger scientific foundation, so I could guide clients based on knowledge rather than assumption. That led me to study trichology and continue my clinical education in the United States. But when I returned to the salon floor, I found a gap between scientific knowledge and practical, everyday application. ISHI exists to close that gap.

ISHI PHILOSOPHY

Heal the Soil, Protect the Future.

HAIR

The Leaf. Biologically, hair is made of dead cells — it is a result, not a cause. You cannot fix a plant by polishing its leaves.

SCALP

The Soil. It is a living organ — a mirror of your client's inner health, and the environment everything else grows from.

By optimizing the soil today, we protect a client's hair — and their confidence — for years to come.

02 — THE CREDENTIAL

CSHS Certification

CSHS Certified Scalp Health Specialist

A professional credential for beauty industry practitioners who want to bring structured, science-based scalp assessment into their existing work — without stepping outside their scope.

  • —Not a medical certification, and does not license the holder to diagnose or treat medical conditions.
  • —A professional-education credential recognized within the beauty and wellness industry.
  • —Focused on informed observation, client guidance, and knowing when to refer out.
  • —More structured and science-grounded than a typical head spa certification — but scoped to salon practice, not clinical trichology.
03 — LEARNING OUTCOMES

What you will learn

Three capabilities, built in sequence across the program.

KNOWLEDGE

Scalp & Hair Science

The biological foundation — scalp structure, hair growth cycles, and how the two relate.

SKILL

Visual Assessment

A trained eye for reading scalp conditions accurately and consistently, in Module 10.

JUDGMENT

Professional Application

Translating assessment into client guidance, care recommendations, and confident referral.

04 — COURSE ROADMAP

The 10-Module Curriculum

Each module builds on the last, bridging trichology and real-world scalp care one layer at a time.

Scalp & Hair Biology

The follicular ecosystem and scalp environment.

Hair Loss & Core Trichology

Understanding shedding, loss patterns, and professional response.

Internal Physiology

Hormones, the nervous system, and gut health.

Trichological Nutrition

Nutrients, deficiencies, and follicular function.

Scalp Conditions

Recognition, support, and referral.

Scalp Analysis Techniques

The microscope, the bulb, and the nails.

Functional Intervention & Scalp Wellness Protocols

Matching care approaches to what the scalp actually needs.

Home Care Science & Client Strategy

Educating clients beyond the salon.

Professional Consultation & Legal Compliance

Protecting your clients, your business, and yourself.

Visual Assessment Training

Practical, hands-on visual assessment — the applied capstone of the program.

05 — AUDIENCE

Who should become a Certified Scalp Health Specialist?

ISHI is built for people already working with hair and scalps professionally — who want that work grounded in something more rigorous.

Hair Stylists

Adding scalp literacy to a service that already touches the scalp every day.

Barbers

Bringing structured scalp assessment into an already hands-on, close-contact service.

Estheticians

Extending skin expertise upward — the scalp is skin, too.

Head Spa Professionals

Formalizing hands-on experience into a structured, credentialed framework.

Salon Owners

Building a differentiated, science-backed service offering across a team.

Any Beauty Professional

Anyone ready to make scalp health a named part of their professional identity.

06 — YOUR ROLE

You are not a doctor. You are not just styling hair. You are the Bridge.

Doctors

Diagnose and treat medical disease — pathology.

Traditional Professionals

Focus on external appearance and temporary relaxation.

You — The CSHS

Assess visible scalp conditions, guide clients toward appropriate care, and recognize when to refer to a physician or dermatologist.

Superficial beauty wins a client for a single visit. Foundational care wins a lifetime of trust.

07 — SCOPE OF PRACTICE

Where a CSHS's judgment applies

The full working protocol is a course resource. Here is the overview that underlies the credential's trustworthiness.

Green

  • Assess and advise on common, non-medical scalp conditions
  • Recommend at-home and in-salon care routines
  • Educate clients on prevention and maintenance

Yellow

  • Monitor conditions that may need closer observation over time
  • Flag ambiguous presentations for further attention
  • Adjust guidance as a condition evolves

Red

  • Diagnose any medical condition
  • Treat conditions requiring dermatological or medical care
  • Delay referring a client whose presentation warrants one
08 — EDUCATIONAL DISCLAIMER

What CSHS does not license

  • —CSHS is an educational credential, not a medical license. It does not qualify the holder to diagnose, treat, or prescribe for any medical condition.
  • —CSHS is a knowledge credential, not a service license. What you're permitted to actually perform on a client — even shampooing, in states like California — still depends on your existing cosmetology, barbering, or esthetics license and local regulations.
  • —Any condition outside the Green/Yellow scope should be referred to a physician or dermatologist, not treated in-salon.
09 — CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

What it takes to earn the CSHS

Completion is verified, not assumed — the credential is meant to mean something.

Module 10 is dedicated to Visual Assessment Training.

Pass each module quiz

A short assessment closes out every module to confirm understanding before moving forward.

Sit the final examination

Proctored live over Zoom to verify the result is genuinely yours.

Candidates who pass are issued the CSHS credential, with both an e-certificate and a physical paper certificate.
